More Carnage by Adam Burn
The Concept Art of Venom: Let There Be Carnage
We were very pleased being able to show some concept art of Venom: Let There Be Carnage before …
… and are even more happy to see that Adam Burn had more up his sleeve for this movie.
“A series of concepts exploring early designs for Carnage's weaponry and how his tentacles form. At this stage we were messing with the idea of fairly rigid looking tentacles similar to actual limbs.”

Concepts to explore how Cletus transforms into Carnage.

"Fomori are a type of Possessed aligned with the Wyrm. Usually the work of full-body Bane possession, a fomor is corrupted in mind, body, and spirit." The concept art was done a few years back for the licence Werewolf: The Apocalypse (World of Darkness).

Great choice of colors. We love the contrast of pale and burnt/irritated skin texture. Also the presentation as if they were being photographed in the dark is killer. ;)

A massive collaborative effort, where Beardall is very grateful for the help and support while working on The Witch Queen: Savathûn.
Small life creatures found around in the swamps of Savathun's Throne World, in which Beardall was given a bit of freedom to explore the design of those little critters.
The Predator

One of the most iconic creature designs mankind has been hunted by.
Predator (1987)
We are writing the year 1986, a new sci-fi/action/horror film is being in the works.
Screenplay is set, people behind camera are prepped, actors are ready to act, the director is about to shout "Action", but wait, what's wrong with the creature?
Predator (1987), The Rescue Team
Well production needed to halt, because the original Predator had one major design flaw, ... it's legs. They were bending backwards, like a dog's, which gave the actor a hard time to jump, run, let alone walk in that terrain. The rest of the design is up to a matter of taste. Some like it, others don't. Some spiraling effect might have taken place too. Bumping on one thing and ending up taking the whole design apart.
But I think that everyone is glad that it changed.
First Design of the Creature; Yes, planned to played by Jean Claude Van Damme
The change happened through Stan Winston Studios. It took a few sketches, partially on an airplane, to connect James Cameron's liking for mandibles and an inspiration of an artwork of a Rastafarian warrior, which gave birth to a very close resemblance of the final look.
First Re-Design Sketches by Stan Winston; Team Predator, which created the iconic creature in 6 weeks only
The Predator is a gigantic (7ish feet tall) humanoid creature, with a lizard-like head, arthropodic mandibles and hair-like appendages, which look like dreadlocks.
It is of extra terrestrial origin (Yautja species) and has super-human powers. Is stronger, faster, more intelligent, can jump higher, etc. ...
It is adorned with collected "trophies" to display their skill and possesses an arsenal of technologically more advanced weaponry and gadgets.

The Bio Mask
A helmet, which increases its ability to see in a variety of spectra, ranging from the low infrared to the high ultraviolet, and also filters the ambient heat from the area, allowing them to see things with greater clarity and detail.
To the left, the original bio mask, which got replaced by a more simple design in order not to give away the creatures facial features.
The Predator’s famous heat vision
The Plasma Caster a.k.a Shoulder Cannon
A long-range energy projector weapon. Capable of firing armor-penetrating plasma bolts at distant targets. The bolts fired by the weapon explode in a burst of plasma "shrapnel" upon striking a target, causing grievous wounds and potentially damaging other enemies near the point of impact.
Predator (1987), A closer look at its Plasma Caster
The Wristblades a.k.a. Gauntlet Knives
This signature armament takes the form of retractable, serrated blades between six and eighteen inches in length and two to eight inches wide that extend over the back of the hand from a gauntlet worn on the Predator's wrist.
The deadly blades are sharp enough to cut through bone and are intended for use against unarmored combatants or those who have been disarmed.
Different stages of retracted/extended blades
The Cloak
A technology, which is able to render the user (nearly) invisible to the naked eye. The Cloak warps light around the user's body in such a fashion that surfaces behind the creature are visible through the Predator's body. The effect is not perfect, often leaving a visible silhouette similar to heat haze, but in certain environments it can effectively help a Predator to hide in plain sight.
Predator (1987), The Cloak starting to malfunction after contact with water
The Predator creatures, Yautja, also appear in the following films:
Predator 2 (1990), the crossover films Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007), Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018)
There is also a new movie coming up, a prequel with the title Prey (2022)
The initial Predator design, which has been rejected in 1986, did get a comeback after all in Neca’s Predator toy line and was smartly integrated in a, so called, Alpha Predator collectible figure.
Kevin Peter Hall
No matter how kick-ass the Predator design is, it was Kevin Peter Hall who breathed life into this monster. With a whopping 7.2ft of height, Hall’s gracious moves were so fitting and characterized this creature even further. He set a high standard which unfortunately couldn’t be reached in this franchise, after Predator 2, ever since.

To refresh our memories, this was how cool the Predator sounded like …
And lastly, here’s a snippet of probably the most famous scene of the movie - “One Ugly Mother***er”

Heavily inspired by these 2 legends, Pablo Munoz Gomez creates some great artwork for his own dark and surreal series.
Munoz was so kind and offered his Giger & Beksinksi Tribute Brushes he used in ZBrush to purchase.
That being not enough, Pablo is also an educator and shares his knowledge in workshops and classes.
The following is a result of an intensive 5-day live ZBrush workshop dedicated to creature design, ZBrush sculpting and Photoshop compositing.
Pablo Munoz Gomez is a very versatile artist and seemingly enjoys creating some cute critters …
… as well as some demonic portraits.
We would like to end this post with some other great pieces by this amazingly talented artist.
XENOMORPH, ALIEN 1979
“You wanted to make the most terrifying creature you can and yet it is also very beautiful,”
“You wanted to make the most terrifying creature you can and yet it is also very beautiful,” said Ridley Scott to prolific Avant-garde Swiss Artist, H.R. Giger.
Original Giger “Necronom” painting that had first inspired Scott’s alien.
The first design from concept artist H.R. Giger had a large black eye, but they thought it would be more frightening to have monster that was blind, but could find exactly what it wanted.
With a head that long a certain function needed to be added, so they gave him a very long tongue, with teeth. As for whether its a male or a female, Giger insisted that “… it is both”.
For the actor in the suit, the production tried performances with gymnasts, basketball players, circus performers, and even Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) himself, but none of them would suffice Ridley Scotts vision.
It was only until casting director, Peter Archer, at a pub in West London one day, when he noticed a very tall man with very slim and long proportions.
The man was Nigerian-born Graphics art student called Bolaji Badejo. After a casting session, Ridley knew this was the man. Giger immediately made another cast fitting to Bolaji’s proportions.
The Alien’s movement required to be slow, and deliberate. To achieve this, Bolaji attended Thai Chi classes as well as immersive choreographic rehearsals.
“The idea was that the creature was supposed to be graceful as well as Vicious” says Badejo who wore fifteen separate later pieces over a black body suit.
The suit’s helmet was extremely heavy due to the inside animatronics which remote-controlled the jaws. Badejo’s view was hindered by the mask and it was made worst in the scenes that had little to no lighting, not to mention the visor being constantly covered in jelly for a slimy look.
Due to the tail, the actor was unable to sit in between takes. That was until the production team built a special chair for him.
After production was done, Badejo moved back to his country to pursue and continue his career as a graphic designer, never to appear in a movie again.
The original alien head for the costume was made by H. R. Giger from a real human skull while he painted the costume using an airbrush. Copious amounts of clear lubricant were used to give a slimy look. The adult alien costume sold for $126,500 when it went on sale in 2007.
The Bio-industrial look of the creature was an instant cult classic. Giving the audience something that was never seen before. Frightening and phallic, the creature still stands the test of time.
H.R. Giger is one of the most visionary artists of all time, gifting us with one of the most iconic antagonists in movie history.
